Zambia has been elected as a member of the World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Board during elections held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The WFP, one of the Rome Based Agencies, is the leading UN humanitarian organisation whose aim is saving lives through delivery of food assistance in emergencies and changing lives by working with communities to improve nutrition and to build resilience.
Six members were elected at the management meeting, with Zambia having been endorsed in its category, for a three-year term beginning 1st January, 2024 to 31st December, 2026.

As a member of the Executive Board, Zambia will support WFP by promoting collective solutions to advancing sustainable development and combating world hunger, which is critical to Africa’s agenda of reducing poverty and alleviating the plight of the most vulnerable people.
