The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations has joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Water Day which falls today, March 22.
This year’s World Water Day, is being commemorated under the theme, “Accelerating Change”. This Day is dedicated to raising awareness on sustainable management of water resources and to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number six (Water and Sanitation for All by 2030).
Achieving this goal calls for concerted efforts as the world is still far from overcoming water challenges such as pollution, water shortages, lack of sanitation facilities and disease outbreaks related to lack of clean and safe water.
Water is life. It is an essential commodity that we cannot do without. It is needed in every aspect of life and a key factor for Socio-economic development. Water is vital today and for generations to come.
The theme of this year’s World Water Day reminds us that we must act together to ensure sustainable use of water and we must not relent in raising awareness on conserving it.
The UN 2023 Water Conference opens today at UN Headquarters in New York.
