FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER HON. HAIMBE ARRIVES IN NEW YORK FOR UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

PRESS STATEMENT

New York, 20.09.25 – Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has arrived in New York, United States of America, to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Hon. Haimbe is leading the Zambian delegation to the General Assembly. The delegation also includes Minister of Health Hon. Elijah Muchima and other senior government officials.

The General Assembly will kick start on 22nd to 29th September 2025 under the theme: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”

This landmark session marks the 80th Anniversary of the UN, providing a pivotal moment for world leaders to reaffirm their commitment to multilateral cooperation and the principle of the UN Charter.

The reaffirmation underscores a shared dedication to peace, development, and human rights, which will reinforce the role of international cooperation in addressing the world’s most pressing global challenges.

Hon. Haimbe is scheduled to address the General Assembly during the High-level General Debate on Monday, 29th September 2025.

The Zambian delegation will attend the High-Level Meeting to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations, on 22nd September, 2025; the Climate Summit on 24th September 2025; and the First Biennial Summit for a Sustainable, inclusive and Resilient Global Economy: Implementing commitments on Financing Development, on 24th September, 2025. The first Biennial Summit, mandated by the Pact for the Future in 2024, will aim to unite multilateral efforts and the international financial system around shared goals for sustainable development.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Zambia will host the Girls’ Education and Women’s Empowerment and Livelihoods (GEWEL) event under the theme, “Delivering jobs for the poor at scale: Country Leadership and Partnership in Action”.

Zambia will also convene a private sector roundtable to promote investment opportunities in Zambia with the private sector in New York.
